In this demo from Citrix Synergy 2011 San Francisco, Brian Madden interviews Wyse's director of product management for hardware platforms, Kiran Rao. Kiran shows off the new "Z Class" thin clients from Wyse, which are their newest high-end line (which will be available in both desktop and laptop form factors).
The main new thing about the Z Class is that it's the first "true" thin client to have a dual core processor. They say first "true" thin client because there are many devices that are sold as dual core thin clients from other makers, but those are actually small form factor desktops being sold as thin clients. That's not bad per se, but it means that those other devices have received their Energy Star certifications based on them meeting the requirements of desktops (which allow for higher power draws than laptop). So in some ways it's like cheating a bit, because it's easier to get a desktop certified. But the Wyse Z Class devices are real thin clients, and they received their Energy Star certifications in the thin client category (which means they consume less than an average of 15 watts). Not bad for two cores!
Wyse also tried to future-proof the Z Class devices as much as possible, including adding USB3 ports.
