The Internet of Things (IOT): Why it Matters and Why You Should Care
Presented by Joe Shonk

By now, you've heard about the Internet of Things (IoT), and the cool things that you can do with robots and home automation. However, IoT is much more than just that. According to IDC, IoT will be an 8.9 trillion dollar market by 2020. Gartner projects that 4.9 billion things will be connected this year alone, and 25 billion things by 2020. There will be 69.5 billion dollars spent on services in 2015, and 263 billion on services by 2020. Do you want to see how easy it really is, and discover why this will be the next disruptive technology since mobile devices? This session dives in with a few demonstrations and you will pick up a few ideas that you can implement back home. In particular, you will learn:

  • What does IoT really mean?
  • Servos, motors, sensors and other electronics have been around decades. So what is this IoT layer?
  • This ISN'T your daddy's electronics. What does IoT means to the average consumer, hobbyist, and the enterprise?

Session Takeaway: You’ll learn how IoT fits into the enterprise, and leave armed with the information that you need to assess the impact that IoT will have on your position, and your company.
