It appears that Citrix is going to release version 4 of the MetaFrame Access Suite any day now. Most likely this will occur at the annual Citrix Strategy Day meeting in New York City next Tuesday. (Update: Since I first posted this article I have been invited to attend Citrix Strategy Day.)

Citrix released version 3 of the MetaFrame Access Suite at this same meeting in April 2004, and they have not released any updates (major or minor) since then. Since a year of Subscription Advantage is now mandatory with all Access Suite purchases Citrix really needs to release a product at least once a year or else they run the risk of upsetting people who were forced into buying the maintenance program. Therefore an April 26 release of MetaFrame version 4 really makes sense.

MetaFrame Presentation Server version 4 will include several major new features, including performance enhancements, a new printing engine, and a brand-new Web Interface and Secure Gateway. Version 4 will also mark the release of the "SmartAccess" set of technologies that will more tightly link Presentation Server and Secure Access Manger.

Next version of the Presentation Server will most likely be named 'Citrix Presentation Server 4.0'. The product you are referring to as Secure Access Manger will be totally changed (but will still have the Access Center). The product name will be changed to Citrix Access Gateway Enterprise.

No PS 4 until at least August...

I can't help but wonder if this is good or bad.

It wasn't way off. He said that's what the rumours were. Brian and Doug both talked about the delay in one of their presentations. See rumours aren't fact, that's why they are called rumours......

So I've never been "tuned-in" for the launch of a new Citrix product before. What is the typical lead-time between official product release and the availability of documentation, eval licenses, media, etc.? I'm specifically wondering because I'm in the same situation as the person above (i.e. ready to roll out a PS 3.0 environment) and I want to know if I'll have time to do a thorough eval of 4.0 and maybe just skip 3.0.

i was told they are going to release it (announce) it next week and then the code will not ship until june or july. I hear it has not RTMed yet. But hell if i know.

Then tomorrow we'll all know and don't need to speculate on rumour and conjecture.

Hi

Does anyone has any idea the new release will run on 64 bit OS (opteron)?

I mean i didn't expect 64-bit Metaframe server but atleast as a 32 bit App in 64 bit environment?

Thanks
