Citrix Synergy 2012 was last week in San Francisco, and there was a lot of consumerization and mobility-related news. The big announcement for the week was that Citrix CloudGateway will manage native iOS and Android mobile applications, and wrap them using a technique that's generally referred to as app wrapping.
Here are all of the articles and videos that we ended up with:
Citrix Synergy 2012 opening keynote live blog Brian live blogged the keynote, so you can read how Citrix chose to present all the announcements. It's interesting how XenDesktop wasn't mentioned until 90 minutes in, after talking a lot about the concepts of "mobile" and "cloud" and other products (Podio, ShareFile, Receiver, CloudGateway, et cetera).
Brian & Gabe LIVE Special Edition: Shawn Bass joins the gang to discuss the Citrix Synergy 2012 keynote Immediately after the keynote, Brian, Gabe, Shawn Bass, and I recorded an special edition of Brian & Gabe LIVE. The consumerization talk starts at 12:40, and we discussed mobile app management, app wrapping, Citrix's mobility strategy, and Citrix Receiver's new built-in secure browser. One interesting point came up around 23:55. In the keynote, Citrix showed a mail client when they were going through all of the Receiver announcements. We speculated on the show that this could be attacking Good Technology's market. In the show, we were wondering whether or not the mail client was native, and it turns out that it is. The consumerization part of the podcast ends at 28:00.
Consumerization Nation #4: Colin, Jim, and Jack discuss Citrix Synergy, mobile application management, and how the cloud is related to consumerization This was our usual weekly episode of Consumerization Nation. James Furbush joined Colin and I to talk about ShareFile, Project Avalon, Citrix Receiver, CloudGateway, and Podio.
Citrix Synergy 2012 video: CloudGateway 2 mobile application management In this video, Citrix's Gary Barton gives a demo of CloudGateway 2's app wrapping capabilities, officially called the "app preparation tool." This was undoubtedly the biggest consumerization-related announcement of the week.
Citrix Synergy 2012 video: A first look at AppSense/RAPsphere mobile app management and app wrapping AppSense announced the acquisition of RAPspere the day before Synergy began. (Article about that here.) This means that AppSense is doing mobile app wrapping too, and clearly this technology is taking off. In this video I talked to Ajay Arora, one of RAPspere's co-founders.
Citrix Synergy 2012 video: Citrix Receiver with ShareFile integration There were some new features announced for ShareFile. including on-premise capabilities. In this video Bharath Rangarajan showed us around Citrix Receiver with ShareFile integration.
Citrix Synergy 2012 video: A look at the XenApp 6.5 mobility pack The XenApp 6.5 mobility pack isn't completely new (it was introduced in late 2012), but I still wanted to get a look at it. Donovan Hackett gives a demo in this video.
Citrix Synergy 2012 video: Wyse releases Stratus cloud-based MDM to private beta During the week Wyse released Stratus, their cloud-based MDM offering, to private beta. In this video I got a look at it with Hector Angulo.
TechTarget's Jim Furbush was also at the show, and he filed BYOD shops get Citrix Receiver, CloudGateway 2 and ShareFile combo.
Overall, it was a great show. We always come away from these with lots of article ideas, so look for more from Brian, Gabe, and I in the coming weeks.
