BriForum 2015 Denver - Jason Conger - Mobile Enterprise Application Platform Smackdown

Mobile Enterprise Application Platform Smackdown
Presented by Jason Conger

Building or virtualizing mobile applications for enterprises sounds hard, but it really isn't. Mobile end users need only a small part of the traditional desktop application’s functionality. You can actually “roll your own” mobile applications for your end users to deliver exactly what they need, and it isn’t as hard as you might think. Microsoft, VMware, and Citrix are making mobility easier. Mobile application frameworks like PhoneGap, Xamarin, Appcelerator, and others are easing the pain as well. This session explores the pros and cons of mobilizing traditional desktop applications, using desktop virtualization vendor solutions, using mobile enterprise application (MEAP) frameworks, HTML5, and native mobile application development. This isn’t a coding session, but example code will be shown to illustrate both the complexity and ease of building your own mobile enterprise apps. Attendees will:

  • Learn what Microsoft, VMware, and Citrix are doing in the mobile application space, as well as others including PowWow and Reddo Mobility
  • Explore mobile application frameworks such as PhoneGap, Xamarin, Intel XDK, HTML5 and more
  • Get tips on "mobilizing" existing applications for small form factors

Session Takeaway:You will be able to use the techniques and examples presented to create your own mobile applications and/or open a dialog with a wider development audience about your enterprise mobile application strategy.
