BriForum 2014 London - The Mirage Desktop Or Why We Abandoned VDI and Went Back to Physical Desktops

The Mirage Desktop: Or, Why We Abandoned VDI and Went Back to Physical Desktops
Presented by Daniel Bolton & Jim Moyle

After doing desktop virtualisation on Dell vWorkspace (50/50 RDS/VDI) for thousands of users over four years we decided to move back to physical desktops, but use VMware Mirage to manage our physical estate. This session is about our experiences with desktop virtualisation, what worked and what didn't for our thousands of users in higher education. Why we ended up moving away from desktop virtualisation and went back to physical desktops, but managing this estate with VMware Horizon Mirage.

Attendees will learn:
• Lessons learnt from four years of providing a centralised desktops to 10,000 users
• What Dell vWorkspace was like compared to Citrix and VMware
• Why Mirage was attractive to us
• How we've architected the new solution

If you like what you see, maybe you should attend in person. This year we have two BriForums. BriForum London is from 19-20 May at etc Venues St Paul location, and BriForum Denver at the Westin Denver Downtown (both are great locations!). Attendees get exclusive access to the videos from BOTH shows as soon as we can process them (around 2 weeks after a show) until we open them up to the public around 6-8 months later. Attend one BriForum and you get access to 83 amazing sessions!

For more information, including a list of sessions at each show, check out BriForum.com. If you'd like to cut to the chase and register, we'd love to see you there!
