Microsoft App-V stories on BrianMadden.com

  • Four things we're looking out for at MMS next week (plus, tell us what you want us to look for)

As we gear up for MMS (by "we" I mean Jack), we're trying to focus on certain areas of the show, since a lot of it doesn't necessarily apply to desktop virtualization or consumerization. There is a lot going on, and based on the number of emails I've...

  • Desktopsites' Konect Elite SMB desktop virtualization solution looks good. With Hyper-V 3, RemoteFX, and Windows 8, it could be great!

I had a chance to have a chat with Calgary-based desktopsites (DTS) earlier this week. DTS makes a desktop virtualization product called Konect Elite, which came across my inbox described as being "like small business version of Quest vWorkspace." I have...

  • Two new free tools from Login Consultants: SCCM Status Indicator and App-V Package Analyzer

While Brian (and maybe you) might disagree, I believe that BrianMadden.com should be more about the "enterprise desktop" and end user client computing in general. The current focus on server-based computing and desktop virtualization is too limiting....

  • "A Failure to Launch:" a new free tool for App-V troubleshooting

I have another free tool for people that work with App-V. One of the challenges of working with App-V is dealing with situations when things don't work right, especially when using the full infrastructure model. Since you have a multi-part delivery...

  • What exactly is an "enterprise app store?" (No seriously... what is it?)

There's a lot of talk about "enterprise app stores." I'm not sure what the exact definition of an enterprise app store is, but the analogy most used is something like "imagine Apple's iPhone App Store, except for corporate IT...

  • You think $500m for XenSource is a lot? That's about what Microsoft has spent on desktop virt companies over the past few years too.

There are a lot of people out there who think Citrix was a fool to spend $500m on XenSource . A few people think it was brilliant though. (Doug Brown had a good piece on the brilliance although I can't find it now.) I agree with Doug. Citrix paid...
