We got in ~20 HP 5730, anticipating more in the months to come. We do not have Altiris in house, and I strongly doubt it will be implemented, ever. Based on my research so far, in order to support these devices using ConfigMgr, a .sld macro needs to be built into the image. Is there a nice noob-friendly step-by-step guide? Trying this again.

I have recently completed my migration from MF XP on W2K to PS 4.5 on W2K3. Completely decommisioned old farm and servers(6) and 2K TS License server.
I use WYSE S10's and 1125's to connect to my farm published desktop and apps.

I have plenty of TS cals for my user base but have currently run out of TS licenses. When I look at my TS License I noticed that I have a bunch of licenses issued (about 60) to my old 2K TS/Citrix boxes. I had 6 servers in my old farm, so each one is issued multiple licenses.
These license have expiration dates starting end of this month and running through Oct. I know they will return to the available pool when they expire, but the bulk of them are a couple of weeks away.

I would like to try to reclaim these now. MS clearing house wont reissue me licenses, told me to reinstall TS licensing.

If I deactivate, uninstall, reinstall and reactivate what affect will that have on my currently issued TS lic to my WYSE units? Will those still be good until they expire and then they will just be reissued a new one from the new install? Or will they throw errors at me right away?
I have a couple of S10's that will not connect and aren't issued a temp lic.

Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a couple of servers which do not exist anymore.
Can I open the SQL database with SQL manager and delete the servers from the database or is there a better way to do this?

I noticed under DHCP it had BOOTP listed. I haev never nopticed that before. Not sure if it is related. i have no BOOTP set up on my W2K DHCP server.

Any thoughts?

I know VDI has all the buzz but if you are just using Microsoft Office why go to the expense of using VDI when I can publish the applications and get 200 con-current users on a 64 bit presentation server.

The strangest problem is happening on my thin clients. WMV streaming works flawlessly when I launch IE through Citrix on my desktop. The thin clients running IE locally also run the video perfectly but I would like them as light touch as possible so the more apps via Citrix the better. For some reason though video playback locks up or is extremely choppy when using IE though Citrix on the thin clients.

We are currently piloting Wyse Thin clients with Wyse ThinOS and Presentation Server 4.5 on Win2003 Terminal Servers. Currently, our XP Pro users have access to every printer on our print servers (about 800). We let them add whatever printers they need via the Add New Printer Wizard, and we do not allow any local printing.

After tinkering with XenApp/CPS 4.5, we managed to import the printers located on all five print servers. Now, I need to be able to let users add printers on their own, and that doesn't seem like an available option. We have about 3000+ users (and potentially hundreds of servers in the farm), and managing it any other way seems like a nightmare.

What do people do in this case? We don't want to do add printers by group or departments. I tried to publish the "Add new printer wizard" with failed results.

If there is 3rd party software that will allow this functionality, I'm all ears.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with RFID scanners/paddles integrating with Citrix? We're interested in connecting them to thin client terminals via USB and want to be able to pass the info through to the Citrix session.

Anyone doing this? What do I need to consider? We're using CPS4.0 on W2K3.

This is probably something I am overlooking or something that is by design, but I want to get some opinions.

We have a MPS farm of 8 servers running MPS 4.0 and some running MPS 4.5. Users connect to the servers desktop (published desktop) via a Wyse (non-domain attached) terminal using the latest program neighborhood. PN has provided the easiest to use interface for our users is why we use PN. What is happening is that users will disconnect (voluntarily, say to goto lunch) and return and try to reconnect, but they don't always get the same session that was disconnected. They might get the same session or they might create a totally new session on another server. What it looks like is happening is that load balancing is trumping any disconnected session. So for example, if the user has a disconnected session on Server A and Server A is loaded down more that Server B, they will create a new session on Server B. I believe the workspace control feature would solve this, but correct me if I am wrong, PN is not capable of workspace control? Also when we had MPS 4.0 the problem existed and it looks like MPS 4.5 makes no difference.

Has anyone ever ran into this before? Any workarounds where we can still use PN on our terminals and still have load balancing?

We have a number of these terminals taking duplicate per device TS Cals. Never more than 2 and always one 'Active' and one 'Upgraded' TS Cal. This is only happening with the WYSE terminals as none of the pc's connected to the network are having this problem.

This problem happened on our TS on Windows 2k and 2k3 server platform and all that wyse has reccomended is that we put on the latest firmware available. After upgrading firmware and rebuilding the TS licensing dbase several times we are still having this problem.

I have seen many duplicate license issues related to the XPe Wyse terms but not the Blazer OS. Some have suggested moving to a per user licensing model however this is not appropriate in our situation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this problem has been ongoing for some time.. and is resulting in some users not being able to connect, despite the fact that we have around 180 TS Cals and only 140 devices!

I'm just looking in to creating a list of the most common objections regarding Thin Clients?

What I have so far is - A PC or Fat Client Advantages:
? Always provides a better user experience
? Fewer server requirements.
? Better multimedia performance.
? More flexibility.
? Better peripheral support.
? Suitable for poor network connections.
? Easier to repurpose.
? Doesn?t need specialist or server knowledge to support.
? Any technical support issues only affect single users, not multiples.

Does anyone know of any others?

When I run the numbers including WTS CALs and Citrix licensing the financial model doesn't look all that great for the thin client. I haven't been given any details on the apps that would be delivered but they would most likely be Office 2007, SAP GUI, IE, etc. I based it on a conservative 35 users per server with a WAG number of users at 500 named / 250 concurrent. With these numbers we're better off buying actual laptops.

Am I missing something with regards to these? Should I be expecting a higher number of users per server, etc.? Retail price on this 6720T is around $800. I know there are security benefits to thin clients, less moving parts, green friendly, but the financial model has to kick in as well.

We are currently running Presentation Server 4,
we have published MSOffice 2003 to a workstation.

On the workstation, we are running program neighborhood agent ver. 10.150
The workstation does not have Office installed, we are relying totally on the published app.

You can open a document that is locally on the workstation without problems. But when you attempt to open a word document or excel document from a local Intranet page, program neighborhood loads the published app and then you get the following error when either word or excel open:

\\client\c$\temporary internet files\content.ie5\s5apm915\document.doc could not be found.............

Our old TS was running Server 2003 Enterprise. This new test box is running Server 2003 R2 Enterprise.

We have upto 40 users connected on the test server, however load doesnt seem to impact the disconnections. Users connect via a mixture of thin clients.

The new server has very adequate hardware, 8gb Ram, Dual Xeon Quadcore. As opposed to the old server dual xeon 3ghz, 4gb ram.

There seems to be no event logs when a user is disconnected. Is there any way to trace this ? I don't think it's a network issue because only 1 or 2 users are affected. The most users we have seen affected at the same time was 5 users at once, but no correlation between them. If it was a network issue I assume all sessions would of disconnected.

Is there any issue running a non R2 licensing server ? We didnt upgrade it. There doesnt seem to be any events on the licensing server to match the kickout times either....

The customer has a office in witch thinclients are used to connect to a published desktop using presentation server 4.5. They want to restrict access using keyboard with those smartcard sleves. (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=biz&cs=555&sku=310-8021) People need their smartcard to logon.

To make things worse, they also have mobile users, who use internet and a Citrix Access Gateway to login. They want to use the same smartcard as access validation on the Citrix Access Gateway.

Does annyone know if such a solution is avalible?
