Initially, I believed this to be a user profile issue, so we cleaned the profiles and that did not resolve the issue. When the user connected to a physical server, the drive mapped properly. This only happens when they are connected to the Virtual Servers. This doesn't seem to be specific to either Provisioning Server, or VMWare.

Any & All assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated.Read more:Group: Tech Support ForumsForum: Virtualization + Server-Based Computing

Away to Provision New Desktops for Users

When I look at VDI, I think of performance gains over traditional methods of using workstations. Lets say a user has centain customizations done to the applications loaded already on there profile, ( cad stuff or Email for their signature, etcs). For example, I can launch the client, then from within my ica session I open Internet Explorer. Wfica32.exe on the thin client in this case, goes up by about 320k. Then, for every other instance of IE that I open, another 320k of memory is called up by wfica.exe. When I close the IE instances, the memory used by wfica32.exe remains, it doesnt go back to what it started with. Eventually, my T5720 with 256MB of flash memory runs out, causing other services to fail. I dont get this result with any of my other thin clients, be it 128MB of flash or 1GB of flash. They do accumulate memory, but never crash. I forgot to mention that we are using the Citrix Metaframe Presentation Server version 4.0 and client version 10.2, 10.150 and tested with 9.0. Also, our thin clients are connecting via web interface. One more recent thing I noticed, is that if I minimize the ICA client, the memory used by wfica32.exe drops down to about 2000k, but when I bring it back up the memory goes back to what it was using, unless I first close all instances of IE prior to minimizing, then the memory goes back to about 2000k after restoring the window.Read more:Group: Tech Support ForumsForum: Citrix Presentation Server / XenApp

Citrix Load History

Hello,

If I wanted to see what the Load was on a given CPS box at a given time, what utility could I use to do that? All other users in other locations all have the same Session ID when they open up multiple sessions published on the respective servers. I dont think its a client version issue because all the users have different versions ranging from 9 to 10. The servers are configured exactly the same way. I had to set the terminal server to 'Restrict each user to one session'. After making this change, each of their sessions have different Session ID's and they also wind up launching the multiple sessions that span more than one server. The other users are still able to do sessions sharing after this change. I am trying to find away to convert my current traditional workstation setup to a virtual environment.( For security and performance issues.) Give you some background, We have a few CAD like workstations and some office clients. 2 Servers.

I would like to utilize the XenDesktop Premium. My thought is to use the Ardence, (Stream via PXE) on all my existing workstations and clients to log into the vitural machine. I would like to set 2 new servers (Either virtually or physcially for the DDC and the Provision Server). I would like to create 2 template (which I can do updates, and install new softwares on the OS and applications). I can provision them ON-DEMAND as a user would log on. This way, It would keep the VM Clean and the VM FAST for performance. AS for the clients, If the PXE boot would possibly Fail, The user can log into the local hard drive and use either Linux Based OS or the OEM Windows and connect to his VM Via Remote Desktop Connection. (This method could poissbly used in a WAN or Home experience as well, I hope!)

I have tested Xendesktop on a setup. However, the biggest thing I am looking for are the graphics. I am looking into the Apollo Project with Citrix to help boost the performance of the graphics so I can deliver CAD like Experience to the client from the Server.

On the flip side. I have tested or testing the SPICE, SolidIce Setup. We like it, however, there are a few things which Xendesktop offer we like, which SolidIce does not have. We like the idea of a diskless client (PXE Boot). We like the On-Demand Provisioning of fresh desktops to our users. However, SPICE Graphics are way better than Xendesktop SpeedScreen, but still not like a Local Workstation Setup.

I hope my idea is not to out of the way, I think this is possible... Running $ Gb of memory.

Our ERP app is odd in that when you pull up sub applications and close them it keeps them in memory so the memory footprint of the app quickly baloons over the course of the day (from ~30Mb too 100-150 Mb)

I am migrating the old servers too PS 45, and adding a Win2k3R2 Ent server with 16 Gb of memory to the load balance group.

In my testing I am seeing 2 things

1) There is a bit more paging on the new server, from ~25 pages/sec on the old server too ~40 on the new server
2) The ammount of memory per session is actually less on the new server (From 95Mb avg too ~ 70 Mb). this is a rough calc based upon free memory/# of sessions

My question is this:

Has anyone else noticed a difference in how the enterprise memory manager handles paging in comparrison to standard? I guess it could be PS45 as well.

I can look at the working set of the app process for each session to see if it is paging more, but it would take alot of playing in perfmon to get an accurate assessment of this.
