At iForum 2007 in Las Vegas last month, I was able to get my hands on a cool little device called the AccessStick DayXtender from Accario, makers of EPAFactory. Here, I'll let you know what it's all about.

Both Citrix and Microsoft released beta client software for the Mac this week. Microsoft released Beta 2 of their RDP 6 Mac client that connects to the new Windows Server 2008 TS features, and Citrix released a new Mac beta client that supports many ICA features that were not previously available on the Mac, such as seamless windows.

Jeff Pitsch did a little digging and found out where the webica.ini file went in the 10.1 version of the ICA client. Thanks to Vista, things are different now.

Terminal Server's RDP protocol has long supported the dynamic creation of client drive mappings as users insert or remove USB storage devices on their clients. Unfortunately, Citrix Presentation Server and their ICA protocol have lagged behind and do not support this feature. However, Dennis Damen did some digging and found a pretty novel solution to this problem.

By now everyone knows that a Terminal Server CAL token is stored on a client device after that client connects to a terminal server. But how does this work in situations where the client device doesn't have any local storage capabilities? How do Microsoft and Citrix work around this? And what about the Linux and open source clients?

I recently switched to a Mac after 15 years of Windows. The nature of my job means that I need to be able to connect to ICA and RDP sessions regularly and generally use the stuff that I write about. But what works on a Mac and what doesn't? If you're an admin thinking about switching, is it possible to do this and still keep your job?

Citrix Presentation Server product manager Orestes Melgarejo has written a blog entry that talks about the Presentation Server VoIP question and presents three different ways that Citrix could integrate these two technologies.

Version 9 of the Windows ICA client changes the way that the webica.ini file controls client drive security settings. This new behavior isn't really documented anywhere, so Jeff Pitsch dug in and figured it out.

Even if you decide to go with thin client devices, the decisions about which thin client device you should use is almost as complex as your server architecture... Throw in the management software choices and you certainly have your work cut out for you!
