BriForum London and Citrix Synergy: What I'm looking for and where to find us

We've got a lot going on next week starting with BriForum and Synergy. Here's what I'm looking forward to and where you can see us speak.

It’s the busiest month of the year for us with two conferences back to back. It all starts with BriForum London, which runs May 19-20, from which I, along with a bunch of speakers, will head to Las Vegas for CTP meetings and Citrix Synergy (We could probably charter our own plane). Some folks are even staying for E2EVC after Synergy!

With all of that coming up, there are a number of things I’m looking forward to at each of these shows. At BriForum, I’m mostly looking forward to connecting with attendees and sponsors in a less frantic environment than the one you experience at the bigger shows. Brian and Jack will both be presenting (I bowed out to make room for one of our other speakers…you get enough of me here), and I’m excited to be able to actually watch some sessions this time around.

I’m especially looking forward to Helge Klein’s “UX and the Enterprise Desktop” where he will show via a session-long demonstration the effects of enterprise software and typical configurations on desktop performance. I’m also hoping to check out “Can Users Become a Domain Admin in 5 Minutes” by Matthias Wessner and “Life on the Bleeding Edge: Lessons Learned from one of the World’s First Windows 10 Deployments” by James Rankin.

BriForum will be a vacation compared to Synergy, where we’ve all go stuff going on. In addition to the CTP meeting, sponsor meetings, and keynotes, Brian, Jack, and I all have presentations:

  • SYN518: “Why VDI projects fail” – Brian Madden
  • SYN110: “Cut through the confusion and choose the right mobile app management technique” – Jack Madden
  • SYN503: “How the death of Windows is exaggerated, and why you’ll still be using it in 15 years” – Gabe Knuth
  • SYN202: “State of the DaaS Industry in 2016” – Brian Madden
  • SYN502: “Jack Madden’s state of enterprise mobility in 2016” – Jack Madden

TechTarget is also producing the Best of Citrix Synergy 2016 awards, for which we will be among the judges. The awards are designed to pick the best technologies from the vendors at the show, and are awarded in one of a the following categories:

  • Application, Data & Network Security
  • Desktop & Application Delivery
  • Storage, Networking & Infrastructure
  • New Technology

Finally, we’re excited to be bringing back the BriForum Geekout set to Citrix Synergy. We did this last year for the first time, and it was really cool to bring the game show that we created for BriForum back in 2007 to a larger audience. It will be done as part of a larger Geek Speak Tonight! session, and there are some big plans that will make for a good time. Geek Speak Tonight! and the GeekOut are on Wednesday, May 25 at 5:30pm.

Of course, the most important thing we’re looking for at Citrix Synergy 2016 surrounds Citrix itself. 2015 was a challenging year for Citrix, where it saw mass layoffs and a change of CEO. I’ve written before that I believe from a product perspective that Citrix is once again on the right course, so I’m anxious to see if I still have that opinion after the show. This is Citrix’s “Grand Re-Opening” in a way, and it will be very interesting to see how they position themselves. Are they a company that’s for sale, or that’s pulling themselves up and charging on?  We’ll see!

I’ll add my two cents:

I’m especially excited to be giving that mobile app management session at Synergy - anybody who has read any of my MAM articles knows how passionate I am about breaking through the confusion and elevating the conversation around MAM.

For BriForum, wow, there’s just so much good stuff. In London I’m looking forward to a lot of sessions, but in particular all the Windows 10 sessions from Tim Mangan, Simon Townsend, and James Rankin.

(My BF London session will cover the state of EMM in 2016. A lot of potential issues have been solved these days, so what’s next? And when does it become widespread?)

I can't wait to catch up with friends and colleagues at both shows!

Looking forward to SYN518 and to Brian hosting SYN501 – Geek Speak Tonight!

Just out of curiosity, do you get any other organizations crazy enough to host ESRI ArcGIS in XenDesktop?
