Now the last things missing are RDP 6.1 clients for Windows 2000, Mac OS X - and Linux ...

OK - I confess. This was a joke.

Not a joke for some of us that still support some Windows 2000 environments.

RDP was missing in some Vista versions (home premium) which was a royal pain.  I hope this install will work on those versions.

No it won't.  You just need to upgrade to Vista SP1.

RDP6.1 for XP SP3

It looks like there is no stand alone download for xp sp3. I tried the link above and the package only works on sp2. I have an sp3, check the version of my mstsc.exe it said - shell version / control version 6.0.6001. And also said - Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1 supported.

Does it mean I have the 6.1 already? thx.

Support for Windows 2000

There is still roughly a bit over year before Windows 2000 extended support ends. I simply don't understand why there isn't an RDC Client 6.1 for Windows 2000. There are still hundreds of thousands of Windows 2000 environments out there that admins like us support on a daily basis. There should be a client for 2000.

I've spoken to a few Windows experts and they all agree that there is really no technical reason complex enough to prevent this new client from working on Windows 2000. The only reason is that they want to start exiting Windows 2000 support.

I fully agree. We have an environment with limited IT budgets (non-profit sector). Most of the PC's are PIII 1 GHz, 256 Mb RAM, 40 Gb HD, W2K and Office 2000. These pc's are old, but are more then performant enough to run TS sessions. We are replacing the current server environment (8 years old, W2K Server) with a complete new blade system fully based on Windows 2008 server and Terminal Server. But now it seems to be impossible to use the old W2K pc's with TS Web Access, since the new RDP 6.1 client is a must for this. And upgrading the old pc's to XP SP2 or SP3 is no option, due to cost alone for the licenses.
