Who said VDI was fried air? Yesterday, Desktone, a VDI startup run by a bunch of ex Softricity guys and gals, announced that they are going to go to market with their VDI solution in an ASP or Software as a Service (SaaS) form. What's really interesting is that they teamed up with someone the size of Verizon.

Another juicy detail is that Desktone is financially backed by Citrix. They are not teaming with just Verizon but they've partnered with IBM as well. Initially the server platform supposedly will be just VMware ESX but Hyper-V and Xen are also slated to be supported. So whayt should such a service cost? Supposedly starting at $75 per user per month. Informationweek: "Desktone plans to sell "desktops as a service" through service providers with Desktone's Virtual-D Platform, starting with business customers. to get thoughts on if folks out there would really trust this technology aggregation concept. Really hard to understand what is it that Desktone has done of real value. Seems like great if you want Verizon etc to host the solution, so why Desktone.
