Appsense has released version 7.1 of their Software. Application Manager, Environment Manager and Performance Manager all support x64bit now. They also have a new Management Centre which looks awesome - centralised reports, alerts the lot. The Environment Manager product has VB scriptable rules and actions which looks awesome. As does the Application Manager product which now has scriptable rules.....means you can start getting them to hook into CAG / AAC....very nice.

In most cases it's deemed professional and courteous to disclose ones connection to a company you are writing about, rather than try and obfuscate such a connection by referring to them in the third person e.g. "they" as opposed to "we".

Although the community ought to be informed about such releases, I find the "bigging up" of news items by employees of the company concerned somewhat distasteful! ("looks awesome", "very nice" etc)

Is Kristian Vidal an employee of AppSense?

Because if so, then I agree with you Neil. It's fine for employees to post links.. just don't try to hide the fact you're an employee.

And to everyone reading this.. if you see a link that you don't like.. Give it a bad rating with the stars!

Seems a little rich enthusing so much about something you are paid to sell without actually declaring your vested interest...

I agree. If you feel that way, then give this 1 out of 5 stars. As we get more news items the system will figure out who is submitting stuff that gets rated highly, and who submits stuff that people don't like. But the system won't work if you don't use the rating system!
Hypocrisy

I find it a little bit rich of Neil to have a go at someone else for advertising when his own posts in these forums often advertise the name of his own company. Your company URL didn't get their by accident Neil so to use the term "distasteful" is somewhat over the top. In fact I don't imagine Kristian makes a penny out of "bigging up" this product, I don't see any place where he has tried to hide his connection with Appsense deliberately and has offered this posting to provide at least three useful facts within three lines to users of Appsense products. Get over yourself you miserable grinch.

My sig URL doesn't get there by accident, you are right, however if I was posting a news report saying "Hey, I've found this great hosting company...you should check them out" without declaring my vested interest, your accusation of hypocrisy would be founded. If the original poster had only included their own company URL, then I would not have made a comment.

The very fact the poster does not delare his connection when posting a news item about his own company, and using the wording "they" instead of "we" implies they want to disguise this association.

I don't see any issues with companies announcing their own product releases here, as they are of interest to all, but they should delare that in their posting and leave out all the "looks awesome" type of subjective comments.

AppSense Responds

Hi Everyone,

I received an email from Simon Townsend at AppSense about this. He writes:

As you might expect, here at AppSense we are all extremely passionate about our software and its capabilities but for employee to contribute their personal opinions on forums such as yours is frowned upon and certainly not common practice. I concur with the comments posted afterwards citing it as "distasteful".

This said, I encourage my staff to be involved in your technical community and in many cases their involvement has been extremely beneficial to your subscribers and indeed our customers and partners.

Please accept this correspondence as a formal yet personal apology to you and subscribers to 'BrianMadden.com'. I assure you that in future, should any AppSense employee feel inclined to contribute postings their identity will be included.

...So this is cool. I want to be clear about this. We want vendors to post links here! Just be honest about who you are and why you're posting.
Apology

All,

Firstly I would like to apologise to anyone who found this post unprofessional or distasteful. This in no way was my intention – my intention was merely to let the SBC community know about the latest AppSense Management Suite. It is true I work for AppSense, and I am very proud of this fact. I am also very proud and passionate about the software we develop – unfortunately I may have let my passion get in the way of my judgment with regards to the wording of the post. Regardless of working or not working for AppSense, personally I feel this software is awesome and to be honest, to be able to contribute to something to make it even better is a privilege.

Many Thanks

Kristian
