Job Summary

Job Description and Responsibilities:
MCIT's Enterprise Device Engineering and Management (EDEM) team is seeking a highly-skilled and experienced engineer to assist us in supporting a Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop infrastructure for use throughout the University of Michigan Health System. EDEM provides customer-focused engineering services for the development and management of stable, secure, and supportable personal computing devices throughout the UMHS. This is accomplished by providing enterprise-level business analysis, development of products and centralized device management services, and application packaging. EDEM uses standards-based technologies and functions within MCIT's operational framework to deliver effective and efficient customer solutions.


The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a UMHS Citrix Farm to offer a XenApp service to UMHS. The candidate will continually monitor and evaluate the capacity of the Citrix infrastructure, will assist in Citrix architecture planning, and will work with the EDEM team to develop a plan for implementing new (or expanded) Citrix XenApp environment(s).


The candidate is expected to serve as the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) architect by leading the development of a UMHS VDI service to host a Windows 7 CoreImage. The candidate will be expected to integrate this VDI service with the Application-Presentation service, integrate with CoreImage SCCM service, optimize, provide level-3 support, and troubleshoot the UMHS VDI service. The candidate will serve as the liaison with the service providers necessary for implementation (Server, Storage, & Network teams).

The candidate will serve as the Workgroup Coordinator for EDEM's Hosted Client Service workgroup, participate in the EDEM on-call rotation and provide general level-3 support for all CoreImage products (Windows XP and Windows 7) and services. In addition, the candidate will assist in the creation of standard process, procedure, and quality-assurance documentation.

Required Qualifications*

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information systems, Engineering or equivalent work experience in complex Citrix environments

Required Experience:
- 5+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Architect-level Citrix XenApp skills and experience designing, installing, configuring, managing, and troubleshooting complex and large Citrix server farms
- Architect-level skills optimizing Citrix performance, scalability, security, high-availability, monitoring, printing, connectivity, group policy
- Architect-level skills designing, implementing, & supporting Citrix XenDesktop (VDI) in both a VMware ESX and Microsoft Hyper-V/SCVMM environments
- Engineer-level skills supporting and troubleshooting the Citrix client in a heterogeneous environment (Windows, Mac, and iOS)
- Administrator-level skills operating Microsoft Terminal Server / Remote Desktop Services (RDS) including rights and security configuration in a multi-user environment
- Experience negotiating appropriate OLAs/SLAs
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, organizational and customer-service skills
- Working knowledge of communication/collaboration tools, including spreadsheets, presentation and word processing software
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems, and provide user support, as well as create reports and communicate to management
- Time management skills to work with multiple projects at various stages of development

Desired Qualifications*

- Certification in Citrix for Virtualization: Integration Architect (CCIA) or Enterprise Administrator (CCEA)
- Certification in Windows Server 2008 technologies and Windows 7
- Practical experience with MS Windows 2003/2008 server environments, including domain management, AD, DNS, DHCP, WINS, and RDS
- Practical experience with lifecycle management for WindowsXP/7-based images
- Practical experience supporting App-V delivered applications (Application Virtualization) in both Citrix XenApp and VDI implementations
- Knowledgeable in networking: routers, firewalls, VPNs, NLBs and V-LANs

- Ability to maintain a positive attitude while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Demonstrates independent judgment
- Demonstrates advanced problem solving/critical thinking
- Communicates effectively at all levels of an organization
- Demonstrates high level of commitment and integrity
