Hi,

I have an intermittent fault with 1 of my xenapp 5 servers. I have a xenapp 5 farm with 3 servers running W2K8 SP2 x86, HP DL360 G6, nothing fancy on the servers - office 2007 and adobe. The servers have been running for over 5-6 months however recently 1 of my servers is reporting a license error

"Citrix xenapp unable to retrieve license server location. Check to see if the Citrix independent management architecture service is running without errors. If necessary set the license server location in the access management console"

Also, when I do a qfarm /load the server reports 20000

The other 2 servers are reporting in fine, no issues. I thought it might be an issue with TS licensing but I have ruled that out, the 3 servers are part of the TS server group and the TS license server runs on a DC with the proper computer account and service account added to the TS server group. Citrix licensing also runs on the same server as TS licensing.

When I started to look at Citrix license settings in the farm I change the farm setting to use the IP address of the license server instead of the name and that kicked the server into life, it run fine for 2 days then the error re-occurred. Again I changed the settings inside the farm, rebooted and bang in it comes. All 3 servers reboot at night and I am wondering if it's something to do with a service not starting in time - although all automatic services have started - or a registry setting that's not sticking?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Euan,

You can check the following things to identify the cause of licensing issue:-

1. Check the licensing location on Server properties in AMC/DSC for problematic server.

2. If you are getting 20000 load on that server, try to change load evaluator to default or custom.

3. Check the License Management Console, are you able to see all the XenApp host entry in Startup license.

4. There may be corruption in LHC due to that IMA may not functioning properly & creating error in licensing communication, try to recreate LHC using dsmaint.

Hi Euan,

I have the same problem, how did you solve this issue??

It's exactly my case.

I have tried to stop Citrix IMA service, run "dsmaint recreatelhc" and than restart Citrix IMA, but this doesn't solve my problem...

Guys -- I should have the resolution for you documented here -> http://citrixtechs.com/blog/?p=64

You may have to perform some combination of the 6 steps I outlined in the Citrix licensing troubleshooting doc.  Most of the time you've got a corrupt link in the datastore that need to be rebuilt, or perhaps a corrupt license file, etc.
