Hi,

I have a large Citrix farm I just inherited and I am trying to find out the best tools, scripting editors/products, books, etc to use to get back up to speed an automate much of what is done now.

We use xenserver to host these on and I am wondering the best way to deploy apps to the servers, install XenApp on a server and run updates automatically afterwards, as well as what books, scripting languages, script editors, and products are good to have?  Basically I can have what I need, we own appsense, and I was looking at visionapp to do some work, but we own the platinum version of xenapp and I know we aren't using much of the features on there.

Should I setup a dedicated management server for this stuff and shold it be a virtual?

I useually make a 'management' server to host all my tools I use for management. And I never take a virtual one, I usually take a metal machine because its faster! You might want to have a look at Farm Commander. http://www.gourami.eu/products/farm-commander This tool can save you a lot of time, and is specially designed for citrix/terminal server environments. This tool automates many task you have to do for many servers at once!, ideal for Citrix servers! Good luck!
