Hi guys, over the years users and the version of the Citrix client that we ship in our SOE has changed from 9.0 to 9.15 etc through to the latest version.

After taking a server snapshot today, i notice the following;

User : Domain\User
Process : ssonsvr.exe
Path : M:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client\
Version : 9.0.32649.0

As we've moved onto newer, better performing versions of the citrix client on peoples pc's, should the servers have been upgraded also?

tia, Shane.

Oh sorry, our environment is Win2003/PS4. Sorry, I forgot to include that.

It would be a good practice to keep the same version of the ICA client across your entire infrastructure.  Having the ICA client the same on the servers becomes especially important when you have users connecting to a published desktop and using PNA.

thanks, originally we were strictly using the web interface, but have slowly moved staff to pna and trained them how to use it (for its obvious benefits).

we'll definitely look at upgrading the ICA clients on the PS4 servers as well then. are you able to share any URL's etc that go through the process, as what's in place now was what was installed when Presentation Server was originally installed.

ie: can i simply install the latest client onto the server over the top, or is there another method?

The Client version would only matter if you were making a second ICA connection from the Citrix Server.

Oh ok, so upgrading it on the server would be redundant then?

I always wondered why the client version was on the server, i guess if you were getting a desktop session, but needed an app NOT on that particular server etc etc
