Hi

I need to create a new license server, but I can't re-use the existing name.

I know I have to return and re-allocate my licenses with the new server name. What I need to know is this: If I return my license and re-allocate to the new server name, will the old license server continue to operate?

I plan on upgrading our farm from PS4.5 to XenApp. I plan on doing this by creating a new Farm, building the servers, testing etc... while the current one is still in production, and I don't want to upgrade the current license server or do anything which will disturb the current setup.

Thanks

Dave

Dave (another Dave here),

Did you manage to get this up and running?  I'm in the exact same boat here - need to create a new farm but need to keep my existing farm operational whilst I get the new one built and tested etc.  Any advise would be much appreciated.

Reallocating the licenses and changing the name of the License Server will not affect the current setup.  Just make sure you have a backup of the old licenses in case of emergency.

Not sure on the Citrix Grace period for doubling up on licenses though but a couple of months should be OK.

Could you not (in theory) use this licenses on two separate farms with two different licensefiles "forever"?

Can you f.ex. reallocate a part of your current licenses, say 20 out of 100, then 20 more l8r while you slowly migrate your users to the new farm?

AFAIK, there is no enforced grace period.  Citrix assumes that you will migrate and remove the old license Server.
