We are considering edgesight for our environment, but one of our main apps, and the main driver behind this is a web portal for our doctors. This portal runs several other applications within the webpage, and I was wondering if it possible that edgesight will be able to help us monitor and diagnose this application. If it matters our main goals is finding the largest causes of slow response times.
The web servers are redhat linux, I do not know what they use for the their web software. We are running this all on a presentation server 4.5 farm, windows 2003. Clients are windows xp, and windows xp embedded thin clients.
I'm not sure you'll get all the info you want out of ES. There are several reports that touch on web transaction errors and latency. The Network Summary by Site report shows Longest Average Network Delay, Longest Round Trip Time, Most Web Errors, and Most Transaction Errors. Double-clicking on these will lead you to other reports.
Are these "other applications" also internal or go to external sites? You'll be able to trend the delay to these external sites, but you'll get the most information if you can run an ES agent at the end point of the transaction (not an option if the site is external to you). Web and Transaction errors lets you get hosts and transaction information, but you don't always get information out of this. The transaction can be an ASP, or JSP, or PHP page I believe.
Your best bet is to setup a test server and see what EdgeSight can collect for you.
