I maintain an ancient Metaframe XP 1.0 server farm. The servers are Windows 2000. I'm having an issue where I have three identical servers. Their desktops are all published. When I connect to the desktop on server1, it maps my default printer to the Citrix UPD, which happens to be an "HP Laserjet Series II" printer. However, when I connect to server2 or server3, my printer does not map.
I've gone through these servers a hundred times - They're all configured identically. I've checked the Citrix farm settings as well as the RDP and ICA connection settings. Everything is the same. I tried removing and re-installing the Laserjet II drivers on Server2 from the Citrix Management console. No luck. What else can I look at?
Is the UPD listed as being on these servers when you look at the Citrix Management Console for each servers print drivers? Sometimes admins will accidently remove the Citrix UPD on a server, which will make it no longer available. Another thing to look at is policies. Make sure you have a policy in the CMC for UPD printers.
This may not apply.
Are you getting any printer mapping on these systems? XP had some issues with killing the Print Spooler service. You might want to verify the server is up and running.
Best wishes
JLH
Greg,
If I browse to the server under the CMC and hit the printer drivers tab, I have "HP Laserjet Series II (Metaframe XP PCL4 Universal Driver) on all three systems. As for policies, this is Metaframe XP which (as far as I know) has no option for printer policies. I have confirmed in the CMC under Printer Management - Properties that "Use universal driver only if native driver is unavailable" is selected.
Jody,
Other printers are mapping on the server, and the spooler service is running.
Sometimes the only way to fix Universal Printer Driver issues is to do a repair of Citrix in add/remove programs on the server with the issue. You have three options, install, repair, remove. The repair will fix UPD back to default install. I used it several times with no issues to the server configuration, so I feel it's a safe thing to do. It's worth a try.
