I do not like this new site, but endure it I must. :)

I was quite surprised today to be unable to discover any ability to search these forums.

Would someone please tell me where and how I can search these forums??

Thank you, Tom

Have you tried using the search button at the top right of the page? It searches the site, including the forums.

Yes I have(it is what I am using to get results now). The search features I am referring/missing the most is the ability to narrow results to just a single forum location.

We're going to add a forum specific search box on the forum pages. But yeah, right now, we just have the site-wide search.

As for not liking the new site, please let me know specifically what you don't like. We can change anything we need to, and we'd love to figure out what works best for everyone.

Maybe it's just me but when I post in Firefox, the box only stretches to half the screen.  I can't see the end of

what I'm typing and so I have to manually press enter to wrap the text around.

I use Firefox with no issues like that...of course I could be the exception... Smile

another way to search the site easily is to go to google and type in

site:brianmadden.com your keywords here

simply replace  your keywords here  with what you want to search for

I wish there was an easy search function, the site is just terrible. The search in the upper right searches everything which is almost worthless when looking for specific forum articles. The site's a great source of information and hey, it's free, but it's still miserable and frustrating when trying to find anything.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much for your feedback and the ideas about search. For those of you where search isn't working, can you please email (brian@brianmadden.com) me which broswer, version, and platform you're using? I am not able to reproduce this yet, and I'd like to get it fixed.

As for the bad search itself, here's what we're doing. Hopefully we'll be ready this week, although it might be next week.

  1. We will add a search box to each forum page that only searches that specific forum.
  2. We will filter the results of all searches so that each forum thread only shows up once. (Instead of each individual post in a thread showing up again and again in the results.)
  3. We will add the ability to search a specific forum from the advanced search page.
  4. We will group results by type for the general site search.. e.g. show the top three forum hits, top three blogs, etc., with the ability to click to drill down for more of that result type.

I ~think~ that will cover all the issues raised here. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian
