From their press release...

MISSOULA, Mont., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- RemoteScan (http://www.remote-scan.com), a company specializing in sharing document scanners, has added to its product line with the release of software that solves a failing in Windows® Terminal Services and Citrix®. With RemoteScan(TM) for Terminal Services and Citrix, for the first time office workers can control the scanners which are directly attached to their workstations or thin client devices while they are running remote, hosted application software. Documents and images can now be scanned directly into the workflow of any software application without the need to share files or folders, and without installing any additional hardware. RemoteScan uses native RDP and ICA protocols, which means that a scanner attached to a workstation can be accessed by the Terminal Services or Citrix application software without changing firewall configurations and without compromising network security. With RemoteScan you can also setup shared scanning areas where one scanner is shared by any number of Terminal Server or Citrix clients.
RemoteScan software products work with TWAIN compatible scanners, and turn any scanner into a network scanner. With RemoteScan, people working at their own computers can share any scanner -- scanning and importing directly into their own applications.

RemoteScan currently has more than a thousand customers world-wide, including schools, hospitals, military bases, banks, accounting firms, aerospace companies and many other businesses which use Windows Terminal Services and/or Citrix. Common scanning requirements which RemoteScan solves for its customers, include the needs of hospitals and medical clinics to scan health insurance cards directly into electronic medical records as required by HIPPA regulations; and banks which have to scan ID documents into new account records because of the recent Patriot Act record retention requirements.

RemoteScan(TM) is available in the following languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Dutch.

RemoteScan(TM) For Terminal Services/Citrix is priced at $189 for 20 seats to be used at one physical location.

The software is sold directly from the company's web site at http://www.remote-scan.com.

About RemoteScan Corporation: RemoteScan is the recognized leader in networking software for scanners. The company is located in Missoula, Montana. For more information contact Steve Saroff. email: info@remote-scan.com phone: (406) 721-0319 web site: http://www.remote-scan.com

I have been testing this app since I read this post last week, and it seems to be a decent solution. The software is easy to install on MF box and workstation. Did not have to edit user permissions, just add a few file to users mandatory profile. The app sends the scanned image over the ICA connection, so there is no need to configure ports and firewalls. This is a big deal since we are testing to use it in an ASP environment.

It can be a little confusing at first because to RemoteScan your MF box is actually the client and the workstation is the RemoteScan "Server". But Glenn (one of the developers) is very quick to respond to support questions.

Hopefully this will work out. Let me know if anyone else is checking this out. Thanks!

My company is currently running Terminal Services 2003 and would like to install scanners in our office. Some people have told us we need to purchase a product like RemoteScan, and others tell us that we can set up each scanner with an IP address and it will work on Terminal Services and that we don't need software like RemoteScan. Can someone please explain which way we need to go?

RemoteScan is a very good product, and it has a sensible price tag. my gut feeling is that it would be a lot cheaper than installing network attached scanners, as you can utilise any twain compliant USB attached scanner.

We have Remote Scan installed directly on our XPe thin clients (Wyse), and have Fujitsu scanners connected to the USB ports of those clients. It works fine.

Here is a diagram:

Hi

I'm also looking to install some scanners on my thin client network.

What other solutions are there?

I like to see all the options before leaping after the first one I see.

We are using Win2k3 Terminal Services with Wyse 1200LE Clients.

Help will be much appreciated.

We also struggled to get the local scanners from our clients to works
on our remote desktop/ terminal services servers to works. After some
search we found TSScan and it works great and is also much cheaper
than similar products. You should take a look at
www.terminalworks.com/tsscan.php. I hope that helps.

You can scan from any application, scanning is like on local machine. Many options available.

We have 4 servers(20-40useres ) using TSScan, and it works great.
