I'm using FlexLM for other products in my enterprise, and I've written a Perl script to parse those log files to count user logins, peak usages, etc. I was wanting to do the same thing for my MPS 3 farm.

However, I can't seem to figure out the FlexLM log file structure that Citrix is spitting out. From what I can see, each CCU license pack I've got is listed as a separate feature. OK I got that. But my log file has a whole ton of "UNSUPPORTED" and "DENIED" lines relating to those CCU packages, so I presume it's when, say, one of my 5-user CCU packs is fully committed, and user #6 tries to log in, that first pack gets a DENIED and it goes on to the next pack.

What I'm really wanting to know in this case is when ALL the connections are in use!

Anyway, there are plenty of other oddities and things I can't figure out in there. Does anyone have any knowledge on how to read that log file to the point where you can figure out how many connections are being used at any given time? (I know there are other solutions out there and I'm looking at them, but since I've already rolled my own successfully with other FlexLM-based products, I'm kind of challenged to make it work here too!)

There is always a large number of oddity going on when changing from one vendor to another. Usually the reason is different versions of flexlm which causes different behavior.

Handling all these oddities can be a large job in itself. You should look into License Statistics as an alternative. It can do what you're asking for an a whole lot more which you did not yet ask for. E.g. you can see utilization of licenses to see if you're using them all efficiently or not.

Take a look at http://www.x-formation.com/license_statistics/index.html

I wrote this to create logs for FlexLM license usage and put it on my webpage today. Give it a try and tell me what you think.

If you are looking for a unique, accurate way to evaluate your Citrix licenses and all published apps running on XenApp, take a look at our Introspect product that was a 2009 Citrix Ready Solution of the Year Award finalist.   We also have a free XenApp license optimizer tool that takes just a few minutes to download and run.  No install, just point at your Citrix RM database and go.  Download it here: www.xtsinc.com.
