First, please forgive me of my ignorance regarding computer technology and my misuse of its terminology. I'm sure it will be difficult for some of you to understand what I am asking since I do not speak your language but, if any of you can help me I will be eternally grateful.
My name is Dwayne Arnold. I am a Program Controls Manager. I have large user base that accesses a Primavera P3e project controls database located on a dedicated Oracle server. Recently my group has been experiencing some rather significant latency issues when accessing and operating this system. We access this database via Terminal Server Remote Desktop rather than a Citrix ICA client and many of my users claim to have experienced better performance using Citrix. The recommendation I have been given is; spend the money on Citrix to resolve this latency issues. I do not know enough about TS or Citrix to know if this is the right solution. I'm asking you for advise. Do you believe that switching from Terminal Services to Citrix will resolve our latency issues?

How would they know they get better performance with Citrix ICA (on this connection) if they're using RDP? What's the latency of the connection, i.e. how many mS?

I cannot give the answer as to how many mS because I don't know but, I can tell you that it took 39 minutes to export a file out of our Primavera system that only took 2 minutes to export out of our clients Primavera system.

I would imagine that this export does not have anything to do with RDP or ICA? Does it take this long to export the report from the server console directly?

My guess is that this has nothing to do with latency, but is some other performance problem on your server.

Had a similar issue in the past with exporting of data from a similar system and that turned out to be AV related? What AV software is running on the server and how agressively is it scanning? Do you have real-time scanning turned on?

You can get the latency via the Citrix Performance Counters in the System Monitor Control (AKA PerfMon), or you can use Fabric Cornet's Latecny Checker:

You can also use ping.

I'd check to see the output path for the report, i.e. perhaps the output path is on a remote file share that's located across a WAN.
