Hi Guys.

We are investigating alternatives to our Citrix infrastructure. One of the interests is in Provision Networks' VAS. Can someone point me to a breakdown of costs (what every CIO wants to know). I need to present per user license costs, software etc. I believe Citrix user licenses run somewhere between $400-500. If anyone has a breakdown of these costs it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

AFAIK, the VAS Enterprise Edition is $99 per concurrent user. The Enterprise Edition includes all the features.

We paid 4200 Euros for 60 concurrent users.

We are currently looking at the same thing.

It's a little more complicated than just getting numbers though.

Do you currently publish Desktops or Applications?
Do you have Thin clients? (WYSE,Neoware, etc...)
Do you want to do VDI with VAS?
Do you just want to use the Terminal Server side of VAS?
If you want to do VDI, there's a lot of different Connection Brokers besides just VAS...
Do you currently have a Hypervisor already?

Cameron,

Provision Networks VAS Desktop Services Edition is $50 per CCU, and only allows publishing applications and desktops from your hypervisors. VAS Enterprise Edition, which has a full compliment of our features, is $99 per concurrent user. However, if you are migrating from another SBC product, such as Citrix, it is $50 per CCU.

Give me a call if you have any other questions,

Wow, I guess that may be why Enterprises are looking to alternatives. For which product? I dunno Cameron, but I'd check with another reseller. If i recall correctly, my upgrade from XPa to PS 4.0e was in the $99-$125 per ccu range (w/SA).

We too have brought up a few VMWare hosts (Dell 2950's, 32GB RAM) but so far for server consolidation, not VDI. I can tell you this, the VAS Enterprise Edition is an excellent management tool & well integrated. I haven't really looked at the VMWare vs Provision Virtual Desktop solutions back-to-back. But if XenApp is as expensive as you say, I'm sure others will be looking very hard indeed.

I just posted a VDI Connection Broker Comparison to the Official Provision Networks Blog. It compares (the the best of our knowledge) VMware VDM2, Citrix XenDesktop and Quest Software's Provision Networks Virtual Access Suite. This includes features, pricing and support options for each product.

Citrix renewals can be expensive too.

However, one good thing about Citrix is that the licensing is for concurrent users.

Does Provision Networks license by concurrent users, or must one pay a license for every single possible user in one's organization??

I work for a non-profit and we must be careful about things like this.

Thank you, Tom
