Hi all,

Im struggling and wondered if anyone would help.

I have a single windows 2003 server in my live environment acting as my CSG / Web Interface server V3.0

Its been ok for the best part of 18 months (long proof of concept that went live, long story....)
Anyway all is well but people are telling me more and more that problems are occuring.

The problem they are seeing is users are getting kicked out of the system while working or while idle which takes them back to the web interface page where red text appears saying " The citrix metaframe server is unavailable please try again later ". Its happening more and more now with no trends. (one user at a time, not every connected user gets thrown out, not every user at a site at the same time, just random)

Does anyone know where I can start to troubleshoot this issue, I have ran tests that show local internet connectivity is not dropping when they are being thrown out so my worry is that its the Web interface causing the problem.

Any one heard of this before ?

Was this server recently patched?

Why is it called "Common Sense"? It doesn't seem all that common!

Interesting because WI has nothing to do with the actual sessions once they become established. My guess is that error message on the WI page is from an attempt to actually launch an application.

Are you using CSG or are you just poking a hole to your internal network?

Yes the server is using CSG. I havent patched the server since it was installed 18 months ago, but im wondering now if I need to.

I understand regarding the Web Interface not holding the session connections but Im wondering if Im able to trace using any tools where its falling over.

I have spoken to my users this morning and they have confirmed that what normally happens is the published desktop will slow down or " lock " then the session is lost. The browser takes them back to the front screen with the error " The citrix metaframe server is unavailable please try again later "

Im installing SNMP on my server at the moment, and bring up an edgesight server to see if that can help monitor whats happening.

This sounds like network connectivity on the client side, but I'm assuming you've checked that out? Since not all users are getting kicked out at the same time, it doesn't sound like it's the CSG server. By any chance is it related to a specific application server? Maybe you have a server gone bad that's dropping connections. Also, check if you have session reliability enabled and try turning it off.

Hi,

Have you enabled logging on the CSG? Perhaps the CSG logs will give some indication of problems.

Also, what firewall are you running?

Cheers,

first of all thanks for taking the time to try and help me.

To answer Dan, Ive looked at the client side and ping commands to the internet do not drop when users lose connectivity which is the first place I looked as your right, not all the connections are dropping at the same time.

In respect to the farm, its only serving around 50 users so I only have two active servers. Some of the LAN users do complain about being kicked out from time to time but It always seems to be the same users and Ive always put this down to the ADSL links they are using, but maybe your right, maybe the problem is with one of the two servers. That would open up a lot of problems for me if it were.

In respect to S/R, Im running CSG2.0 and WebInterface 3 so S/R is not supported. It is enabled on the Farm but not all clients have it enabled on the workstations.

To answer Alan, I'll look at the logs today and repost.
