That means by doing a dynamic analysis i will get all the issues appearing, since it will check the client it will show you the interfearance of working GPO and so too. That is a good fact, because by doing an msi analysis i will get a static result, that may help to ensure standards of packaging, keep the rules, and all that stuff, but with an static analysis it will be only one view one the topic, but not a complete one. I think from my understanding, i am wright with that.
Dynamic Analysis means testing by a tool, and then for the real business critical applications testing here in a laboratory. Then every gap should be closed. The meaning of Quality Assurance is to prevent incidents, not only during a rollout, even with the software working on a client, and the interaction of the different applications on the whole client together. If i want to prevent such issues i have to improve my methods of testing, and such a tool will help here for sure. In a business environment it is allways to lower the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), so that is why testing and such tools are really important.
With my experience as a tester in a big environment i know such issues and often a small gap will cause a lot of trouble.
Interesting point of view - I would like to take it to elaborate the functionality and uniqueness of QtestBASE as compared to the other tools.
You have mentioned QA, Test, Rollout - that’s exactly where QtestBASE comes to play its role. The packaging tools like WISE, Flexera or other tools like App-DNA and AOK don't focus on QA. They just parse MSI file to check it against certain given rule. But who can assure it that:
After all, you are not testing and hence not having the assurance whether it’s going to work at the end.
On the other hand, QtestBASE is a QA-Product to facilitate and provide the QA functionality in an enterprise as a part of the permanent QA-Process. Let me say that QA is a bridge between packaging and rollout and goes even beyond the rollout.
