I have Server 2003 running about 60 portable notebooks and desktops with win xp on the clients.

What is the tcal situation when using a linux remote desktop as the client?

http://www.rdesktop.org is the site to get the linux desktop. It works well in my environment.

Windows 2003 Standard running Citrix Metaframe XP Presentation server FR3

I have installed the eval copy of Citrix onto my 2003 server. When I go into the management console and look at the licensing, I see that the license I added and the FR license are in the pooled available column but are not in the pooled in use column. I made sure that the feature release level was set correctly. I have deleted the license and reinstalled another license with FR but this did not help. This is happening on two of the 8 servers that I have. they were all built the same exact way (OS). Any idea why the license is not being seen properly by Citrix? The user of this server submitted a work ticket stating that after the maximum number of connections is reached the following msg appears: Title: Citrix ICA Logon Message
Text: The system was not able to acquire a Citrix product license. The IMA service may not be running. Please contact your system administrator.
I have restarted the IMA service to no avail. I think he is getting this msg because of the issue I stated above. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Hi, I have a single Windows 2003 server as a member of a Win 2000 domain. The Win 2003 runs Citrix and that is all it is for so no users access it except for Citrix. I am happy about needing Win 2003 user CALs and Terminal Server 2003 CALs to cover the usage. I already have Win 2000 user CALs to cover the rest of the domain (not terminal servers). But I was told I would need to upgrade all the CALs on the domain to 2003, not just the subset of users requiring Citrix access. Is this right? I would expect that they could simply use the Win 2000 CALs as they will not use the Citrix server for any form of access outside the licensed Citrix use. Is this correct? Thanks - Malc

I have 15
simultaneous connection on my citrix server for one application, (1.8/NT)[/align]
Now We migrate in PS4/2003, i have 43 PC in my office, the user on my citrix application can be anyone of the 43, but 15 max simultaneous, from any where.

My question is, can i purchase 15 TS user CAL and assign this Cal on my 15 anonymous account.

Thx in advance for your help.

You can aquire 15 user calls and install them on your terminal license server but 2003 won't let you see if they are used or not.. in other words only device licenses are monitored. This "bug" is fixed in Longhorn terminal server.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and will apologise beforehand if my question has been raised before, but I can't find the answer. There is obviously a wealth of information here and all contributors are to be congratulated. A great source of inspiration.

My query, I have at present:-

Server 1 - Windows 2000 DC (Primary) acting as TS Licence server
Server 2 - Windows 2000 Terminal Server with Citrix Metaframe XP

This configuration has been serving around 30 Windows XP SP2 client workstations for about 3 years with no significant issues concerning terminal services/Citrix.

I will shortly be replacing Server 1 with Windows 2003 Server and new hardware. The process I am using includes adding a 'migration' DC, remove it from the network, seize all roles, then repeat the process with the new Win2K3 server hardware. The end result will be that the new 2003 server will have the same identity as the old 2000 server. The old server will then be decommissioned and replaced by the new server with minimal impact to users (hopefully).

My question: Will I need to purchase TS Cal's for the new Windows 2003 (DC) licensing server, even though the Terminal/Citrix Server is a Windows 2000 Terminal Server (non DC) ?

Thanks in advance for your informed opinions.

Kind regards, Peter Smith.

I see you have a guide to windows 2003 terminal server licensing. Is there one available for Windows 2000 terminal server licensing? I've got some issues but I'm still running the 2000 version.
