We have a Citrix Presentation 4 windows 2003 Citrix farm of about 120 servers. I have moved our datastore over to a new SQL server with a different name. I wrote script to copy the new DSN file to all the Citrix servers and to do a dsmaint on them to point to the new Datastore. All the servers have connected to the new datastore all except three servers? I have tried the following, recreated the LHC, uninstalled Citrix off one of them and tried to reinstall it. I tried a chfarm this did not work on one of them with no look. They dont seem to be able to connect to the DSN. Tried to setup a datasource in ODBC settings on the server, no luck. However I can still get them to connect to the original copy of the Datasource on the original SQL server ?
I've tried running DScheck /Clean no change. I have also renamed the server that I had uninstalled Citrix to see if the issue is with the servername that was being use no Luck anyideas other than a full rebuild.

Hi,

It sounds like the three problem servers may be setup for indirect mode. Have a look at this reg key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\IMA

If there is a PSServer value and the DatabaseDriver value is empty, then the server is using indirect mode.

Is it possible your authentication credentials on the last few machines were different for some reason?

SQL database it set to use SQL authentication the user name and password check out okay. I

checked the registry settings advised from Alan see below

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\IMA

PSServer value ********NO SUCH key *****
DatabaseDriver = Imasql.dll

As I say I can connect to the original datastore through ODBC datasources ?

Hi,

These servers are definitely setup to use a direct mode connection to the SQL server. You have copied the same DSN file to all servers, so the DSN should be fine. I would suspect some sort of network issue or perhaps a DNS issue.

What happens if you manually create a file DSN in the ODBC utility and use the TEST button - is it successful?

Can you telnet to the SQL server from one of these problem servers:

telnet 1433

did you try dsmaint config /user:domain\username /pwd:password /dns:path to mf20.dns
if you use a sql account skip the domain part.
worste case scenario would still be a full rebuild of your machine.
