Hello,

I'm going to build a Proof of concept XenDesktop on Microsoft Virtual Server, without Provisioning Server.
Is it possible to create automaticaly new desktop when the idle is reached, like with Provisioning Server?

Thanks

Hi Chris,

From my understanding your XenDesktop DDC does not plug into the Hyper-V manager at this stage (I could be wrong) but basically it will not be able to start up machines if they are switched off. So I would suspect that in relation to the amount of machines idle would not make a difference as it can not start up new machines anyway, and nor would it be able to provision new machines. All it plugs into at the moment is XenServer and a VMware environment.

Cheers

Hi,

You can run XenDesktop on a HyperV platform and manage it with SCVMM. More details here:

http://community.citrix.com/display/~sumitd/2008/05/06/Citrix+XenDesktop+for+Microsoft+Hyper-V;jsessionid=aStMRf6wHnWbk-wx1U

I haven't tried it yet myself...

Hi Alan,

Good catch. I completely forgot about SCVMM. I know Citrix worked very heavily with Microsoft while in the development stages of SCVMM to ensure plugged into XenDesktop. As for functionality and how it does it, I am unsure.

Well worth the download and let us know how you go.

Cheers
