Virtualizing Exchange 2007 on XenServer - June 24, 2008

Hi All

We are currently planning our Exchange Server 2007 system. I asked a few people at BriForum if they had any issues with running Exchange on XenServer. Nobody seemed to.

I was wondering if there was anyone who had any tips and who would be prepared to be a reference site, as my boss would like to speak to someone using Exchange in a virtualized environment.

Many Thanks

Tom

My two cents. We have everything virtualized except Exchange 2007.

A close business partner decided to try it last year and they 100% wish they never had done so. New budget, new hardware was bought and the Exchange went back to physical servers.

I personally know the guys who rolled it out, and they are as sharp as they come and budgets were not a hinderance. Fortunately for us, their pain was our gain.

Things may have changed since then and as I mentioned, we have everything else, including SQL2005, virtualized. No issues whatsoever with everything except Exchange 2007.

Interesting note. Microsoft is about to released its HyperV and it clearly states to NOT install Exchange 2007 on it for at least 60 days after the release.

That should tell you something if Redmond doesn't even want you to put Exchange 2007 on their own hypervisor.
