The Excruciating Detail of the Citrix Logoff Process

Several months ago, Kevin Goodman and I created a huge wall chart that detailed all of the steps in the Citrix Presentation Server logon process. Due to popular demand, we've just created a similar chart for the Citrix Presentation Server Logoff Process.

You can get this thing right now be clicking the links at the top of the article. The 150dpi version should be good enough for you to view on your screen. The 300dpi version is good enough to print out.

We specifically sizwd this to be able to print out on an 11 x 17 inch page. You can also order a 16 x 20 inch poster from our Cafe Press store. The cost is $15 and you'll receive it in a few days.

We'll keep this poster up-to-date as we learn about changes and fixes.

Somebody please found a company that produces a tool that can troubleshoot this process! It's so difficult to troublshoot these issues and you never know where you are in flow.

First I would just like to thank you for gathering and posting all this info. I have been a Citrix Admin with Presentation Server 4 for almost a year and have had nothing but problems. Citrix gives no help. I have never had the profiles unload totally working.
In the Profile Unloading box of the Logoff Process flowchart, one of the boxes says "Check the ExcludeProfileDirs Registry Entry" I don't have an registry entry like this, can you tell me where it should be in the registry so I can add it? Thanks so much!

We have recently released a new version of our product, where we have implemented logon process monitoring. For the upcoming version we are considering implementing logoff process monitoring, though we must know what kind of problems administrators face with the logoff process (that UPHClean doesn't manage to solve). What about checking to see if the user is a member of the local guests group. If the user is a member of this group, the profile gets deleted regardless if the profile is configured as roaming or local. I ran into this working with someone who had roaming profiles, but because of their profile requirements, they had all Citrix users members of the local guests group, which deletes the profile before it even copies it up to the roaming share. It then creates a new profile ever time the user logs in.
