Idokorro releases Citrix ICA client for Blackberry

Idokorro (yeah I never heard of them either) just announced that they have released a Citrix ICA client for Blackberry handheld devices. It works on any color Blackberry device running v4.0 of the Blackberry system software or higher. The price starts at $35 per device and drops from there based on how many you buy. They're offering a 30-day free trial if you want to check it out.

The Idokorro client connects through a Citrix Web Interface server and runs published applications. If you're using a Blackberry Enterprise Server, then you can route all of your Blackberry ICA connections through it (just like any Blackberry app). You also have the option of allowing your devices to connect directly to your Citrix servers via their built-in TCP/IP stack and Internet connection.

I know that a lot of people have been looking for something like this for years. At our company, we use Windows Mobile devices instead of Blackberries. Has anyone out there given this Idokorro client a test? What do you think?

I'm not sure why Citrix never did this. Perhaps another acquisition in the near future?
Now all I need to do is replace my 7290 with a color-screen Blackberry (easier said than done)

The ability to run applications on a Blackberry from a Citrix server was shown at Lotusphere this year in January.  Lotusphere is Lotus's WW conference with between 5 and 6 thousand in attendance.  Lotus Notes was the main application being shown and it demo'd quite well.  There was a lot of positive feedback from everyone who saw it.
 
Domino Web Access (DWA) was also announced as a now supported application to be run off Citrix Presentation Server.  In the past, only the 32-bit version of Lotus Notes was supported (5.x, 6.x and 7.x).
 
Rational Performance Tester for Citrix Presentation Server was also shown as a way to test scalability of servers as a way to roll out Lotus Notes.
 
Today, there are around 30,000 customers using Citrix as a means to deploy Lotus Notes.  This is why there was so much focus on Citrix!

I was very excited to see an ICA client that connects through the BES. I am able to logon and my applications are enumerated but when I try to launch one I get "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User Access permissions on this computer..."
 
So close, but yet so far away. I don't have time to try to figure it out but I did shoot Idokorro support an email.

I've posted info about this on my SBC blog here as I had this same exact issue.  According to Idokorro, they've seen this with about 4-5% of the people that downloaded the client.  They have a developer working on it and are planning to have a fix out within 1-2 weeks.

Thanks Shawn. They replied to my email with the same info. Poor guys, Brian and Doug Brown both posted announcements today. I bet that "4-5%" is climbing...

That's exactly the same thing I was told.  I'm betting a few more than 5% of their clients are seeing the problem.

I installed the client on my (UK) Vodafone Blackberry 8700, and it has been faultless so far. The whole idea of accessing citrix apps from a blackberry is great and geeky, but it is like reading the financial times through your letter box - possible but not the best user experience.
 
I guess it is good as an emergency access method to a particular app but really not what you would deploy to users. Hey it is great being able to get Outlook on my blackberry - I can check my email and calendar outside of the office.

Currently the Idokorro Mobile Citrix Client only connects through an ICA connection on port 1494.  It may be able to connect through the Citrix Access Gateway, but this is something that Idokorro is still looking into. 

If you are connecting through a BlackBerry Enterprise Server though then you do need to go through Secure Gateway because that server will act as a VPN server giving you access to your internal network.  In this situation the Mobile Citrix Client will first connect to the BlackBery Server through the MDS Connection Service and the BlackBerry server will then contact the Citrix server with an ICA connection on port 1494.

Well add one more user to that 4/5% range

An updated version of the Mobile Citrix Client for BlackBerry is now available.
 
Some users have seen the error message: "To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User Access permissions on this computer..." This error used to occur when users tried to access applications hosted on a secondary Citrix Presentation Server running Windows 2003. This issue has been resolved.
 
This version also resolves several bug reports, including an issue related to sending keystrokes (such as PageUp and PageDown) from the "Show Extras" screen.
 
You can download the new version over the air using your BlackBerry web Browser from: http://mobile.idokorro.com
 
Please note that this new version requires that you have the Citrix XML Service running on your server, you do not need the Web Interface installed.  If your XML Service is running on a custom port you must enter it when you launch the Mobile Citrix Client using the format "Citrix Server: myserver:port".

I am considering buying a Blackberry through T-Mobile so I will not have a BES.  Can I still use the Idokorro Citrix client on a Blackberry through T-Mobile to connect to our Citrix server?
