Good-bye Ardence. Hello Citrix Provisioning Server.

Last week Citrix officially changed the name of their Ardence Server product to Citrix Provisioning Server. It appears that the product itself hasn't changed at all.

What’s more interesting is the fact that Ardence will now be sold through Citrix’s worldwide channel. Previously Citrix let Ardence operate more-or-less independently of them. In fact, several of the top distributors in Europe for Ardence are not Citrix partners at all. Citrix distributor agreements are typically exclusive on a country-by-county basis, so when Citrix bought Ardence they couldn't automatically extend distribution agreements to all the old Ardence partners since many of them were operating in countries that already had another exclusive Citrix distributor.

Sorting this out might be kind of messy, but such is business!

You are almost correct in saying that nothing has changed, but there are 2 things for this release which have changed as far as I know: branding (simply a replacement of Ardence branding by Citrix branding) and instead of using the Ardence licensing, Provisioning Server will use the Citrix License server.

When will it become available to Citrix Gold partners?

Or is it Platinum (Citrix Licensing is so confusing these days)

So now when I refer to to CPS (Citrix Presentation Server) I could now be talking about Ardence...sorry CPS (Citrix Provisioning Server). Nice bit of work Citrix

There are several changes, besides the rebranding. V6 License Manager support, SAP Fulfillment, Boot from USB/CDRom, NIC Teaming Support to name a few. Do your homework, Brian...

Actually... the abbreviation will be PVS for Citrix Provisioning Server. ;-)

Thanks for naming these few. Where did you see this list? Can you name the rest please instead of just naming a few?

I cannot speculate. I can only state facts. Here, read about it in more detail: http://www.citrix.com/English/NE/news/news.asp?newsID=682561&ntref=hp_article_headlines_US Also, if you are attending iForum, be sure to check out the sessions concerning Provisioning Server. I personally will be the speaker for two sessions (#206 and #301).

Hey Brian, If you are attending the CTP meeting, you will get some great insight there. If not, look me up and I will definitely share the changes with you. - Pete

Ardence Streaming Platform (at least for desktops and VDI) is so overrated....I had such high hopes for it, but it's just let me down on too many occasions...the new licensing model blows too.

I find a lot of value in the product from a management standpoint.  Take a look at a VDI article series I am working on, with part 2 being specifically about the implementation and configuration of Ardence.
