Here are the stories and conversations that people are thinking and talking about this week:

Citrix's Acquisitions

  • US government regulators approved Citrix's acquisition of XenSource.
  • Citrix bought a company called QuickTree for an undisclosed sum that we assume was less than $500m. QuickTree offers security products that filter XML files and web services. (Think of what NetScaler and Teros can do for HTML/HTTP, except on the XML level.) QuickTree will first be integrated with NetScaler. A cool side-note: Citrix used the term "mash up" in their press release. Rock on!

New Free Stuff this week

Other new releases

  • Microsoft finally released System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM). This is their tool for provisioning, managing, monitoring, optimizing, and reporting on VMs. They're even releasing a "workgroup" edition of this tool that will only cost $500 and let you manage five VM hosts.
  • Aqua Connect released the "Aqua Connect Terminal Server." This is to Mac OS X what "Terminal Services" is to "Windows Server." In other words, the Aqua Connect Terminal Server turns a Mac OS X Server into a full-blown Terminal Server that serves Mac sessions and applications. Unfortunately the client and protocol is VNC, but they're working on other solutions too.

App Delivery Companies in the Stock Market

Citrix (CTXS) closed at $36.68 last night, up from $36.06 a week ago

Microsoft (MSFT) closed at $28.91 last night, up from $28.45 a week ago

Brian - What happened? No Friday News Round Up last Friday. I was hoping these would be a regular thing.
