According to rumors from several sources, Citrix has released MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 (codenamed "Hudson") to manufacturing. (Click here for a list of new and improved features.)

The release schedule will look something like this:

  • Presentation Server 3.0 will be released in May.
  • Secure Access Manager 2.2 (announced a few weeks ago) will be released later this month.
  • A new version of Password Manager will be released in April.

The new version of Secure Gateway didn't make it into the final cut of the product, so Presentation Server 3.0 will ship with the current Secure Gateway product. The new Web Interface will require ASP.NET to be installed on the MetaFrame server. Also, Presentation Server 3.0 still uses the Java-based MMC, so you'll have to install JRE 1.41.102 or newer (1.4.2 is the current version).

Finally, Citrix made heavy use of .NET foundation technologies for this new product, so you'll also need to install the .NET 1.1 Framework.

I am expecting a lot out of MFP30. There are so many ways Citrix could improve this new release. MFXP 1.0 was just not powerful enough. In MFXP the administrator has very little control on individual servers, and had to resort to reg hacks and mods. I have been using the TP since day 1. Overall is presents great value and is worth the upgrade. But, it needs to be if it’s to compete with Bear Paw and the rest.
