Citrix Synergy 2013 video: What's new in ShareFile

At Citrix Synergy 2013 in Anaheim I had a chance to talk to Jay Tomlin, the product manager for ShareFile.

On the client side, the ShareFile app now has document editing built right in. This has been out for a couple of months, but still it's pretty cool. Now there's no more need to shuffle around between apps, and it means that user can get more meaningful work done even if their company isn't doing full-blown mobile app management yet.

On the storage side, ShareFile Connectors can now connect mobile clients to existing on-premises file storage and SharePoint instances. (Previously as of Synergy Barcelona last fall, ShareFile could connect to on-premise storage, but it had to be in the special ShareFile StorageZone format.) This is a big deal, because it finally means no more moving data around in order to get mobile access to it.

If you want Dropbox-like syncing on the desktop, however, the data has to be in the ShareFile StorageZone format. So that means that the way to access existing file stores from a desktop is through traditional network drives.
