This is a video of a breakout session from BriForum 2007, presented by Christoph Hammer.
Session Description: Printer Management is an often neglected topic, but when it
comes to practical use it can cause nightmares if used in a wrong way.
This session gives you an overview of not only what Microsoft and
Citrix offer but also the advantages which third party tools can bring.
We'll
explain the printing architecture from printer types over networks to
protocols and the limitations of each. You will understand what you can
achieve with the intrinsic resources. In a live demo the strength and
options of WMI scripting for printer management will be shown. Also
some real world scenarios will be analyzed and recommendations given
how to handle them.
Printer management is never an impossible
mission. Printer drivers have been a problem on Terminal Server from
the beginning. We'll look at how to identify "good" and "bad" print
drivers. In live demos you will see how to monitor the essential values
of resources on a server reducing the performance when printing. There
are many parameters which can optimize this process. It has also
carefully to be analyzed what influence the infrastructure has.
Finally, printer drivers use different languages and many dialects.
We'll show you how to understand the industry's secrets behind this.
Mission accomplished.
