If you could wave a magic wand and have any one single feature in the next release of Citrix XenApp, what would it be? While XenApp has literally hundreds of features that have been added over the last 10 years as the product has evolved from MetaFrame Read More...

For me, rather than going on about new features here and there, I'd be happy if the features we had were a little bit more robust.  Number one

No 1,....Other than me typing properly would have to be a stable ica client.

Each release of Metaframe, CPS and now XenApp takes up more and more memory. How about more users? Remember the original goal? Lower TCO! What happened to that?

Live migration of individual sessions would be an incredible feature for administrators but it wouldn't help sell the product to the end users.

An ability to move user's live sessions between servers

Yes, that would be my choice too  ...from an administrator perspective.

Couldn't you dress it up as a performance \ stability feature of some kind that directly impacts users?  If you had a user hogging server resource, to the detriment of the other users on the server, moving that session elsewhere would improve user performance.

server cloning utility (perhaps a cloning prep and post-cloning utility), and a built-in User-Profile Manager.

A server cloning utility will be released next week by Shannon Ma of Citrix.  Also Citrix just aquired technology from Spegato so give it time on the profiles. What I would like to see is Citrix fix all the little nuances... The need for multiple console to setup something simple like a new load-balance is wierd.  Or better yet, how about the ability to publish and unpublish multiple applications from the GUI. (that has to be the most hated non-feature of PS).  How about true USB redirection?  Stable ICA Client.  Better documentation on troubleshooting hooks (multi-monitor for example). Joe Shonk

Not just XenApp....but better quality code across the product range, specifically Access Gateway (Advanced and Enterprise), ICA Clients and XenApp.Make sure the current stuff is more stable rather than adding new features which rock the whole boat!!!

I've build many environments, and I've seen a few customers throwing out virtualization. So when Citrix bought Xen, I was amazed, because even with todays hardware its not really a logical combination. Hosting a XenApp server with 50 users on a hyperfyser just doesn't perform. Things I would do when I was CEO of Citrix:<br />-Sell Xen<br />-Buy RES (PowerFuse, Wisdom)<br />-Foces less on product presenation and sales, and more on technical quality of the products.<br />-Stick to names of products for longer than two years.<br />-Start with a complete new, non-backward compatible, build of XenAppBut hey, who am I :)

The ability to maintain a good quality, responsive ICA connection, independant of network latency, network disconnects or any server performance issues.  This obviously does not fit the architecture of Terminal Services, but....you asked for magic.

When dealing with software like PowerBuilder, you are limited to 32 character name lengths for printers, otherwise you can't print.  It would be nice to be able to set the naming format of the UPD client printers when they are created on the server.  I know you can us "Legacy" naming format, but from what I understand that breaks other things, like SmoothRoam. On the subject of printers, why did they change it so that every user can "see" every other users printers.  If you are like us, each user has like 5-10 printers.  That's a lot of printers to see when you got 40 users on a server.  I long for the old days of Metaframe XP when each user only saw his/her own printers. So I guess that it TWO things I would change, not one.  I guess my magic wand has 2 charges in it.

Brian:Why are you limiting your poll to these specific categories? This sound slike something Citrix would do.Are you getting paid from Citrix to do this?Citrix needs to quit marketing hype for the half baked features.

Some kind of built-in user profile management functionality would be ace. Citrix might argue that its Microsofts job to come up with a decent profile solution but that hasn't stopped a host of 3rd party WTS offerings...

This is a poll on the Citrix site, Brian is just providing a link to it. Got to the actual Citrix post and you will see that additional items are being added as contributors suggest them.

If you give everyone admin rights on the box of course you are going to see everyone's printer...  Otherwise you should NOT see everyones printer.  Sounds like a environment specific issue and not a citrix issue.

Why?  That methodology will take you back the dark ages.  Time to move forward.

Are you not up on the latest news?  Citrix bought SpegatoProfiles.

Guest wrote Re: Printer nameing customization

Nope - they do not have admin rights.  They can't PRINT to any printer, that is secured down, but they can SEE all printers.  It is just confusing to the users to see 100 printers listed when they go to print.

I think he is up on the latest news but Citrix User Profile Manager (Sepago) does a halfway job with user profiles.  You still have to go to a third party like Microsoft to do the other half.  Or you can get a solution like Script Start ProfileUnity which does it all in one or you can go to greater expense with an environment manager solution.

Another vote for a stable ICA client. We're looking at maybe a 3rd private client in the past 3 months. Nothing but grief with 10.x.

Integrate PowerFuse?  We are talking about making things better, not adding a cumbersome, do too much, lock me in, costs too much type solution like PowerFuse, but hey, who am I?

A good user profile management tool will solve the printer issue easily, unfortunately, the Sepago, Citrix User Profile Manager does not do anything in this area. But there are good products that do solve this....see the mention a few comments below re: profiles.
