VMware ThinApp, former know as Thinstall, offers functions that other Application Virtualization solutions cannot offer. It is no problem for Thinstalled applications to be executed within a few seconds on a workstation, where no client is installed and where there is no back end infrastructure present. Thinstall has several advantages over other application virtualization solutions. A complete overview of Thinstall can be read here: http://www.virtuall.nl/articles/PublishedArticles/LanVisionThinstallenglish.pdf
One of the disadvantages of Thinstall is the GUI for configuring the files of the Thinstall application, there isn’t a GUI available. CIS group created a GUI which can be used to configure the parameter text files for each Thinstalled application.
Some features of this simple tool are:
- Manage your projects.
Recently opened projects and projects in your configured project location can be (re-)opened with just a single click. - Configure the project settings.
Configure the settings that influence the build process, generated output (MSI) or run behavior. - Specify folder isolation handling.
Specify the isolation level for folders using a graphical representation. - Build the project
...and generate the application(s)
