VMware ThinApp helper configuration utility

VMware ThinApp, former know as Thinstall, offers functions that other Application Virtualization solutions cannot offer. It is no problem for Thinstalled applications to be executed within a few seconds on a workstation, where no client is installed and where there is no back end infrastructure present. Thinstall has several advantages over other application virtualization solutions. A complete overview of Thinstall can be read here: http://www.virtuall.nl/articles/PublishedArticles/LanVisionThinstallenglish.pdf

One of the disadvantages of Thinstall is the GUI for configuring the files of the Thinstall application, there isn’t a GUI available. CIS group created a GUI which can be used to configure the parameter text files for each Thinstalled application.

Some features of this simple tool are:

  • Manage your projects.
Recently opened projects and projects in your configured project location can be (re-)opened with just a single click.
  • Configure the project settings.
Configure the settings that influence the build process, generated output (MSI) or run behavior.
  • Specify folder isolation handling.
Specify the isolation level for folders using a graphical representation.
  • Build the project
    ...and generate the application(s)

The Thinstallhelper can be downloaded here:

Hi Ruben, i'm an employee of CIS-Group and using the tool for some time now.
I'm a collegue of Jurjen van L from PQR, we work together (thinstall) at Orbis Medical Park.

It's a small world not? :)

Thanx for you review!

Thanks Ruben, with so many competing products in this space anything that makes life easier for those looking to create virtual installs is a bonus.

Saw you present at BriForum in Chicago, some great stuff there, and what about Shawn Bass, boy can that guy talk fast. I'll need to watch the DVD in slow motion for that 10 issues with SoftGrid presentation. :), still, excellent content.

A new version (v2.1) of the ThinstallHelper has been released.

This version has as new feature that the virtual registry can be edited from within the GUI. It works like the windows registry editor. Additionally the project can easily be backuped (to a zip).

For more details check the CIS-Group ThinstallHelper website on:
