At VMworld 2011, Gabe shot a video with Kevin Strohmeyer, Senior Manager of Product Marketing for Citrix. Citrix was showing their recently released XenDesktop 5.5, running on a vSpere hypervisor in a demo environment to showcase its hypervisor neutrality.

The XenDesktop 5.5 release comes with many new features for HDX, including multi-stream ICA. ICA traffic can be split over 5 ports, which can be mapped differently depending on requirements. Also, there were improvements on how multimedia is handled, including utilizing real-time compression and on-the-fly redirection.

Citrix is now offering vDisk technology (that was recently acquired from RingCube) in XenDesktop 5.5 as a technical preview. It allows each user to have a personal vDisk that can interact and mix  with a virtual machine from a static pool.
