New Project VRC Whitepaper: "VRC, VSI and Clocks Reviewed"

Ruben and I just released a new Project VRC whitepaper called “VRC, VSI and Clock reviewed”.  The content of this whitepapers is quite academic, but very relevant to Project VRC. We describe in detail the things we have learned, and how we improved VSI along the way. We also investigated the impact on VRC results: it is interesting to see how results changes when comparing hypervisors.

 “This whitepaper is a review and reflection on previous Project VRC publications, the benchmark: “Login Virtual Session Indexer (VSI)” and Windows clock behavior within virtual machines.  This discussion is fueled by the fact that results from the individual Project VRC whitepapers are set side-by-side to compare hypervisors. Project VRC has been in discussion with both vendors and community, and performed additional research in this context. Before Project VRC can publish new results, it is important to address any questions, review the impact of this discussion and improve VSI where possible. “

“For Project VRC to move forward and publish new results, it is important to fully understand the impact of this conversation and improve the methods used where possible. In this document the following topics are addressed:

1. The Login VSI Methodology;
2. VSI 1.0 Optimal Performance Index;
3. “Stuck” Sessions;
4. Response time measurement method and clock drift;
5. Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as a reference clock;
6. Login VSI 2.0;
7. Reviewing Citrix XenServer and VMware vSphere 4.0;”

As usual, download the whitepaper from www.virtualrealitycheck.net.

Great work :-) thanx for all the time and effort you folks put into this work! It is a truly valuable tool to me in the way i look at virtualization.

Maybe some external observation are needed here? I found these 2 especially interesting.
