My advice, pick a VDI solution, pick one or two light/medium power user groups in the enterprise, find some cash for training and software and roll out a serious test or two in a real life workgroup(s). It's the only way to figure out what the real VDI requirements will be in your environment. (If you're like me, it's in this testing where you'll see that XP is much more energy efficient in terms of overall power consumption for tasks performed under VDI soltions per user, as compared to Vista...).

Even better, is that Citrix bought a company that makes good management tools for the Zen hypervisor. I think IT managers will reluctantly put up with having to use more than one vendor's hypervisor in their environment, but I'm sure will jeer loudly if they must use separate management tools for each hypervisor. No doubt we'll be seeing big announcements from Microsoft, Citrix, Oracle, (and VMware?) that their management tools are the best and can manage all those virtual machines on hypervisors from different vendors.
