In this chapter, we're going to look at the considerations you need to take into account when designing your MetaFrame XP network architecture. By "network architecture," we mean the MetaFrame XP environment as it relates to the network, not the specifics of individual servers.
It is crucial that your MetaFrame XP architecture is able to support your users over your existing network. Regardless of whether you're planning on scaling your MetaFrame XP environment to support worldwide users, or you're building one server that may be the foundation for the future, you should address several things.
- MetaFrame XP server placement. (The location of your servers on the network.
- MetaFrame XP server farm design.
- Server farm zones.
- IMA data store usage.
We'll close the chapter with a case study that details a real world design for a toy company. We'll look at several possible designs that this company considered and the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
