Few of us have the luxury of building a MetaFrame XP environment from scratch. Many of us will need to upgrade or migrate from a current MetaFrame 1.8 environment. While the other chapters in this book will help you design the final MetaFrame XP environment, this chapter will help you get there from your current MetaFrame 1.8 environment. Most likely, the migration plan that you create will call for a temporary coexistence period in which both MetaFrame 1.8 and MetaFrame XP servers will work together.
In this chapter, we'll look at how MetaFrame 1.8 and MetaFrame XP are fundamentally different and what it takes to get them to work together. We will study various interoperability and migration concepts and look at the various components that will be key elements in your migration strategy.
