Do you remember when Brian said we'd have the videos from BriForum Amsterdam ready in one week, then I said two weeks? Well, neither of us were right!
Turns out that the videos require about the same amount of attention as the videos from Chicago, but we are way better at it this time around.
The brief overview of what we have to do is this:
- First, we have to fix the audio for about 20 sessions. This involves removing noise and amplifying low voices (two things that don't go well together). We're working on an active solution to fix this for future shows, but for now we're stuck with the source audio.
- In order to fix the audio, we have to extract it from the MPEG video files, repair the stream, and then re-mux it back into the video. This process is done, but it took the better part of the last two weeks to get it right.
- Next, we have to get the synchronization times down for each of the videos (remember, there are two videos for each session - one for the screen and one for the presenter). This situation is also being fixed at the moment, but we haven't quite got it yet. This is where we currently are, and I expect it to take another day or two to finish.
- Last, we have to re-encode the presenter and screen capture videos so that they have the correct metadata and video configuration for our player. This is the most time consuming process, but at least it's a batch process. This part alone takes as long as 5 days.
That said, we're really close, and we expect to have the streamable videos online within a couple weeks. We'll upload them as they finish encoding, so you could start seeing them on the website sooner than that. DVD's should be available 3-4 weeks after that, depending on the time it takes to get them pressed.
I hope this hasn't been an inconvenience for anyone, but rest assured we're working hard to get these videos online! If anyone needs anything, email me at gabe@brianmadden.com and I'll do my best to help out. As I watch these videos, I keep thinking what a great show it was, and I'm very excited to go to Amsterdam again next year. Hope to see you then!
