  • Wow! TS session-to-VM portability from Aussie startup Luflogix

Imagine the scenario where a user could start a virtual desktop session on a shared Terminal Server. Then after awhile, the user could "stream" that session from the Terminal Server to their laptop, and take that session with them offline running in a local Vista VM. This is what Brisbane-based Luflogix promises to deliver in the second quarter this year.

  • How to publish a pre-configured Citrix Access Management Console so that discovery runs automatically

One of the great benfits of Presentation Server / XenApp is the ability to delegate administrative functions to help desk admins and support engineers. Unfortunately if you simply publish the Access Management Console for them, the "discovery" process will prompt the user every time the console is launched, which is annoying and confusing. In this artcile, Katie Koepke took the time to figure out how you can pre-configure the AMC so that discovery runs without user intervention....

  • Citrix iForum becomes "Citrix Synergy"

Citrix has changed the name of their flagship conference again. After calling it "Citrix iForum" from 1999 - 2006, and then renaming it to the "App Delivery Expo" for 2007, the 2008 event will be called "Citrix Synergy." If you can get over the "three names in three years" thing, I think this is actually a good move. The "App Delivery Expo" was not a good name. It was too long and hard to remember....

  • Will VMware still exist in five years?

This wasn't an article I intended to write right now. But after Alex Barrett blogged about a conversation I had with her last week on this very topic, my inbox has been flooded with emails asking "Did Alex really quote you properly?" and "Are you crazy?" The answers to those two questions are "yes" and "quite possibly."...

  • Citrix scores two Microsoft MVPs; Gus Pinto and Rich Crusco join as Technology Evangelists

Citrix lost another CTP this week, although this time it wasn't to Provision Networks. Gus Pinto (Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP) and Rich Crusco (MVP) will join Citrix as Technology Evangelists. According to Citrix blogger Chris Fleck , the two will...

  • What products does Citrix make now? (Spring 2008 edition)

Since we last posted an article last June listing the entire Citrix product line, Citrix has re-invented itself as a "virtualization" company and re-branded their product line to suit. Our intent was to keep that article up-to-date, but with so many changes, it's probably worth keeping the old article as a historical snapshot and creating another one for the "New Citrix." ...

  • An in-depth analysis of the Microsoft-Kidaro deal. What does this mean for VMware, Citrix, and the industry?

Yesterday Microsoft bought desktop virtualization vendor Kidaro for an undisclosed amount (although rumors suggest as much as $100M). Kidaro makes virtualization software and management tools that "package" Windows desktop images into VMs that can run locally on users' computers. It's a lot like VMware's ACE product, although Kidaro has much better management capabilities....

  • Citrix Virtual Design Studio enters beta. Requires OpenGL and x64. Wait... what?

Citrix Virtual Design Studio. Is this the product that was announced at Summit a few months ago that lets you design your Citrix environments virtually? Nope. That's Citrix Workflow Studio. Citrix Virtual Design Studio is the final name for what was codenamed "Project Pictor," a set of extensions for Presentation Server that let it run OpenGL-based CAD applications via ICA. So "Virtual Design Studio" is for Computer Aided Design, virtually....

  • What the hell is XenApp 4.5?

I'll admit I'm completely confused. When Citrix announced that they would be changing the name of Presentation Server to XenApp, I really applauded them. What I don't understand is why they decided to "retroactively" also rename the old, EXISTING versions of Presentation Server products to "XenApp" as well....

  • Rick Mack and Michel Roth join Provision Networks / Quest

In January, Provision Networks (now part of Quest Software) scored big time when Jeff Pitsch and Patrick Rouse, two well-known Citrix CTPs (and past BriForum presenters) joined the company. Provision has just scored again, this time with another two guys who are well-known to the community....
