Mary Jo Foley over at Microsoft Watch is
reporting that Microsoft is now considering releasing an interim version of
Windows that would come before Longhorn server. I've previously heard that
Longhorn has been pushed back to 2006, but Mary Jo is reporting that it could be
2007 or 2008!
If this is the case, Microsoft will need a way to roll additional features
into Windows. While it's not explicitly mentioned by name, I would bet that
these features would include the "Bear Paw"
Terminal Server components. Therefore, I'm going to update my "official"
prediction and say that if Microsoft releases an interim version of Windows
Server, it will contain the Bear Paw version of Terminal Server.
On a related note, the "death" of
current screen-scrape based Terminal Server technologies is probably more
like 2008-2010 now.
