The next major release of MetaFrame, codenamed "Hudson," will be passed out
to attendees of this year's
iForum from
Oct 13-15. Hudson, which is scheduled to be released in Jan or Feb 2004,
will be in beta format.
No official word yet on the new features of Hudson, although it will most
likely address some of MetaFrame XP 1.0's current weak spots. (Like the ability
to publish applications to OUs in AD environments, tighter AD security
integration, and better distributed administration.)
Originally slated for a release "90 days after Microsoft releases Windows
Server 2003," Hudson will help Citrix keep the pressure on Microsoft, and it
should help bolster Citrix's position as Microsoft continues to evolve and
enhance their Terminal Server functionality. (a la project "Bear Paw")
There's also no word yet on what the official name of the product will be
called. Perhaps MetaFrame XP 2.0, or MetaFrame 2003?
